Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund IMF, Christine Lagarde, who arrived Abuja on Monday on a four-day visit to Nigeria, met with President Mohammadu Buhari at the presidential villa.
Prior the meeting Largarde affirmed
that Nigeria is working hard to improve its business environment, promotes
opportunities for growth in both public and private sector, and strengthens
social cohesion.
After the close door meeting with
President Buhari, Lagarde while briefing statehouse correspondents said the discussion
focused on revamping Nigeria’s economy through others sources different from
oil, which price is falling in the global market.
When asked by the press if the
discussion focused on loans for the economy of the country, Lagarde affirmed
that her trip to Nigeria was not to discuss loans but to help the country look
at other sources of revenue to tackle iots dwindling economic outlook in 2016.
She,
however, refused to comment on the 2016 Appropriation Bill submitted to the
National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari because there are procedures at
the IMF that must be followed.
