Federal government has proposed to spend about four point nine-two trillion naira in the 2013 fiscal year. President Jonathan presented the budget before a joint session of the National Assembly describing it as an all encompassing budget that will address the problem facing the citizens.

The new budget earmarks over two trillion for capital expenditure while about one point five trillion will go into recurrent. According to the President the budget deficit would fall to two point seventeen percent n 2013 down from two point eighty five percent in 2012

President Goodluck Jonathan urged the national assembly to accept a tighter budget because of ongoing uncertainty over oil prices which makes up around eighty percent of Nigeria's revenue.
