FELA GETS POSTHUMOUS BIRTHDAY GIFT FROM LAGOS STATE GOVT

Lagos State Government has turned the house of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, into a museum to “promote cultural heritage and mark the 74th birthday” of the legendary musician. the museum is located at number 8, Gbemisola Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and it will be and managed by Total Consult, 

The museum also showcases some of Fela’s trademark items like dresses, shoes and household materials.
There are about 3000 dresses of the legendry musician in the museum, other items include covers of the albums of the late musician.

According to the state Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-Government Relations, Disun Holloway, the Kalakuta Republic Museum is to bring back the old social life and culture to Lagos. He noted that it was impossible to overstate the importance of Fela to Lagos and the global musical village.

Holloway said, the museum was declared open on Felas posthumous 74th birthday which also heralds the beginning of felabration – a week long series of festivities to celebrate a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician, human activist, tourism stakeholder and political maverick.
