POLICE DISRUPT ASUP/COESU PROTEST IN ABUJA


Protesting ASUP & COESU members
Academic Staff Union of Politics and Colleges of Education Staff Union members stormed Abuja for a protest over the continued insensitivity of Federal Government on the 10month old strike of the union.

The protest was expected to start at the National Secretariat from where the proceed to the gate of the National Assembly, however after converging at the start up point, the protest was disrupted by members of the Nigerian Police Force.

Police officers fired tear-gas at the protesters, but the lecturers and students remained adamant and insisted they would not leave the venue.

The protest was organized to show displeasure at the federal government’s handling of the strike by polytechnic lecturers ASUP, and college lecturers, COEASU.
Both unions have been on strike since last year with hundreds of thousands of students unable to attend lectures.
