Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Gambo Sallau has resigned. Gambo’s resignation had been anticipated since Monday, when 26 members of the 31-man Peoples Democratic Party  contingent jumped ship to the All Progressive Congress,  handing over the reins of the 40-member Assembly to the opposition party.

Reading his resignation this morning “I, Gambo Sallau, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, hereby announce my resignation as Speaker”, Gambo was quoted as saying on Freedom Radio, a broadcast medium based in the north-western city of Kano. “My decision to resign as Speaker is based on political reasons. Now that the PDP has become an opposition party, I will not continue to be Speaker of the House”.

Born in 1960 in Kafin Maiyaki in Kiru Local Government Area in Kano State, Hon. Gambo was appointed Chairman of his local government between 1997 and 1998. In 1999, he contested and won election into the Kano State House of Assembly. Gambo won again in 2003, and has been an ever-present feature at the Assembly since then.

Masquerade234 gathers that Alhaji Ali Danja is now the new speaker.
