Proffesor Wole Soyinka |
Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has lashed at members of Boko Haram whom he says have limited knowledge of Islam. Speaking in Port Harcourt at
the opening of this year’s Rivers State education summit, Soyinka said
poor knowledge of the Koran was largely responsible for Boko Haram’s
reaction to western education.
Soyinka emphasized that some of the greatest
philosophers in history were Muslims, adding that there was need for
members of Boko Haram to be retrained on the content of the Islamic religion.
Boko Haram as a terrorist group started their activity by saying they were against western education and in recent times they have been burning schools and attacking educational institutions, a situation that has not doused the hunger for western education in the Northern part of the country.
