POLICE COMMAND PLACE TWO SERVING SENATORS AND FORMER GOVERNOR UNDER WATCH

Inspector-General of Police Abubakar Mohammed, said three alleged sponsors of the extremist Boko Haram sect were under watch and investigation. The three are a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff; and two serving senators from the state, Senator Ahmed Zanna and Senator Ali Ndume.

Mohammed stated this while taking questions from newsmen shortly after declaring open a conference of sectional police heads and zonal and state Criminal Investigative Departments, He pleaded with the public to cooperate with the police, saying that they should not hesitate to come forward with information that could help the police to prosecute the three men.

The inspector general of police emphasized that the police cannot take anybody to court without ample evidence. Investigators need evidence to pursue their cases. So we need assistance. This is one of the many reasons for this conference today,” he said.

Earlier in a speech at the opening of the conference, the IG had reiterated his commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police to a 21st century policing agency.
